The Himalayan Linguistics Olympiad Nepal (HLON) is Nepal’s pioneering platform for nurturing young minds in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Linguistics. Since 2017, we have been proudly conducting the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) selections, and in 2024, we expanded our mission by introducing the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI).
At HLON, we believe that Nepalese high schoolers have the talent and potential to compete at the highest levels globally. Through rigorous national competitions, we identify and prepare the brightest minds to represent Nepal at these prestigious international Olympiads. Our alumni have gone on to excel in academics, research, and innovation.

The International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) is an annual international competition that brings together secondary school students and experts from various fields of linguistics. Since its inception in 2003, the IOL has been hosted in a different country each summer. The competition challenges participants to analyze the grammar, structure, culture, and history of different languages and to demonstrate their linguistic abilities through puzzles and problem-solving challenges.
Top 4 selected candidates from the national round will be representing Nepal at the 22nd International Linguistics Olympiad happening on July 20-27 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Please note that students from Grade 8 to 12 of all Examination Boards and Gap Year Students who have not yet joined college are eligible to participate.
The International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) is a premier global competition for high school students, aiming to cultivate both a strong theoretical foundation and hands-on expertise in Artificial Intelligence. IOAI is the most prestigious annual competition in AI for high-school students. The 1st International AI Olympiad (IOAI) took place in Burgas, Bulgaria, in August 2024, bringing together 41 teams from 32 countries and territories across six continents.
